We are fond of our Red Squirrel population here in Irongray and are very active in helping protect their long-held territories here against the Greys, a non-native and invasive species.

The Lower Nithsdale Red Squirrel Group (LNRS) consist of volunteers who work alongside Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels (SSRS) in the conservation of Reds, the control of Greys and generally raising public awareness of the importance of protecting our iconic Reds.

So when the Lower Nithsdale Red Squirrel group asked Shawhead Primary School pupils to help design a logo, the children swung into artistic action. And the resulting artwork features on LNRS Group’s new information leaflet and mug (available to purchase only £6) and the logo will be used on future marketing materials.

Huge thanks go to all the Shawhead Primary pupils who participated, shown here with their Red Squirrel goodies
